Mt. Pleasant- Mrs. Dolores (nee: Peterson) Barke, 79, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare- All Saints on Saturday July 11, 2009.
Dolores was born on January 16, 1930, to the late Jay and Isabelle (nee: Smith) Peterson and lived her entire life in Racine. On January 14, 1950, she was united in marriage to John E. Barke. He preceded her in death on October 17, 2000.
Mrs. Barke was a very devoted mother and grandmother. She was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church and was a lifelong volunteer who served in various local organizations.
Dolores is survived by her six children, Peter (Sandra) Barke of Lake Mills, IA, Bill (Terri) Barke of Torrance, CA, Tom (Cheri) Barke of Neenah, Dan Barke of Racine, Nancy (Bruce) Harwood of Lyons, and Sally (Marty) Klatkiewicz of Keller, TX; 10 grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Claire Peterson of Hartford; and one brother-in-law, Walter Barke of Racine. She is further survived by many other relatives and friends. Dolores was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Peterson; and sister, June Peterson.
Funeral services for Mrs. Barke will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church on Thursday, July 16, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Warren Williams officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Janos B. 'John' Marton
Janos B. Marton, “John,” age 46, passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 10, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. John was born in Racine on May 18, 1963, son of Barnabus and Katalin (Nee: Bunyevac) Marton.
John graduated from Wm Horlick High School, “Class of 1981.” On August 21, 1987, in Racine, John was united in marriage to Susan D. Burge. He was employed by DIC Imaging for the past 10 years. He was a member of the Harley Owner’s Group and loved the Packers. He was an avid deer hunter, fisherman and camper and enjoyed shooting. He was an extraordinary cook who loved to cook for his family. Above all he was a devoted husband and father who will be dearly missed.
Surviving are his wife of nearly twenty-two years, Susan; his children, Erica and Jacob; his mother, Katalin Marton; sisters, Katalin P. Marton and Susan Smith; mother-in-law, Helen Burge; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Carolyn Burge, Barbara Sawyer, and James Burge; nieces and nephews, Antoinette DeMark, Rocco DeMark, Elizabeth Smith, Rosemary Smith, Mark Kowalski, Keri (Brian) Fosse, Andrew, Eric and Molly Sawyer; his best friend, Paul (Diane) Kaye; other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father; his uncle, Mark Bunyevac; and his sister-in-law, Kathleen Ann Burge.

Richard A. Bowman
Richard A. Bowman, 90, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints on Friday July 10, 2009.
Richard was born on April 20, 1919, to the late Alvin and Olga (nee: Tangness) Bowman and lived his entire life in Racine. On April 19,1952, he was united in marriage to Eva Solsrud at St. Mathew Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. They spent 26 loving years together until she preceded him in death on December 31, 1978.
Mr. Bowman served in the Army during WWII and was employed at Knox Motors for over 40 years until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church and was an active member of Golden Kiwanis in which he did many charitable events.
Richard is survived by his son, Richard A. (Kaaren) Bowman II; two grandsons, Rick and Jim; and a sister, Carol Reilly of Clearwater Beach, FL. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services for Mr. Bowman will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Ave., on Tuesday July 14, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Warren Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends can meet will the family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday July 13, 2009, at Wilson Funeral Home and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Cecelia 'Cele' M. Schmitz
Cecelia M. Schmitz, age 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 9, 2009. Cecelia was born in Racine on January 11, 1914, daughter of the late Matthis and Anna (Nee: Frantz) Schmitz.
Cele graduated with a teaching degree from St. Frances College in Joliet, IL. She was a longtime dedicated member and teacher at St. Joseph Catholic Church where she taught 3rd grade students for thirty-five years. Cele also taught at Holy Name School. She enjoyed upholstery, crafts and her life on the family farm.
Survivors include her niece, Dr. Mary Urhausen of Racine; nephew, Joseph (Judith) Schmitz of Racine; many other nieces, nephews and their children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her eight sisters and brothers, Sr. Ann Mary Schmitz, Bill (Margaret) Schmitz, Marie (Ted) Urhausen, RoseMary Schmitz, Albert (Theresa) Schmitz, John Schmitz, Susie Schmitz and Leone Schmitz.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St., on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at 1 p.m. with Rev. John D. Aiello officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until time of Mass. Rose Mary Puluikis
Rose Mary (nee: Petkus) Puluikis, 88, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints. She was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on October 21, 1920, the daughter of Peter and Tekla (nee: Mataitis) Petkus.
Rose was united in marriage to Paul Puluikis in Racine on October 2, 1948. She was employed at the Racine Public Library, working at the uptown branch and the bookmobile for 42 years, retiring in 1999. She also enjoyed knitting and sewing and especially being a homemaker. Rose’s flower garden and bird watching gave her much joy and peace throughout her life. During her working career as a librarian she loved working with the children. “Some more than others.” Rose loved her family, especially her grandchildren who were most important in her life.
Rose is survived by her daughters; Linda Brower of Columbus and Sally (Tim) Falaschi of Racine; grandchildren, Autumn Brower of South Milwaukee, Nathan Brower of Milwaukee, Jim (Denise) Falaschi of Racine, JadilLyn (Joe) Bachman of Shorewood; and great-grandson, Evan Falaschi of Racine. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul on March 6, 2007; sisters, Carrie Tilton and Michaeleen Samon; brothers, Ned and Ben Petkus.

Lois Van Opens (Nee: Wilbershide), 87, passed away at Ridgewood Care Center on July 9, 2009, following a brief illness.
Lois was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School and Marquette University. She worked many years for the Racine County Welfare Department. She was a member of the Junior League of Racine and St. Mary’s Medical Auxiliary. While she enjoyed volunteering in the community, her true passion was being a devoted wife and mother.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Francis; and her children: Peter (Gina) of Oconomowoc, Katie (Jeff) Nelson, Pattie (Rick) Otto of Racine; grandchildren: Matthew, Paul (Becky), Lisa, David, Julie and Libby; other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, James and Helen Wilbershide; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Robert Fisler; and nephew Bob Wilbershide.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Church on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at 1 p.m. with Rev. William J. Dietzler officiating. A private interment will be held. Mabel Bailey
Mabel Bailey, 94, passed away in the Hospice House, in Pleasant Prairie, on Wednesday, July 8, 2009. She was born in Danbury, IA, on September 25, 1914, the daughter of the late Steve and Rose (nee: Kuipke) Pullis. She moved to Racine in 1934.
On October 9, 1934, she was united in marriage to Warner Bailey Sr. who preceded her in death on August 29, 1990. Mrs. Bailey had been employed by Massey Ferguson for over 13 years until retiring in 1979. She was a member of the Pleasant Hours Card Club. She enjoyed sewing, baking, and decorating cakes. But her greatest love was spending time with her family.
Surviving are her granddaughters, Cathi Gunn of Burnsville, MN, and Lori (Richard) Gavin; great-grandchildren, Kinzie (Jason) Mazurkiewicz, Jacqueline Harrell, Kimberly Kissh, Adam Diekhoff and Angelina Balistreri; nine great-great-grandchildren; brother Uno Pullis in Oregon; sisters, Claire Beard in California and Joyce (Art) Thomsen of Racine. Her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends further survive her. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her son, Warner “Jay” Bailey Jr.; brother, Wayne Pullis; sisters, Estelle Dexter and Ruby Rublesoki.
