Rose L. Scholzen

Rose L. Scholzen, 94, passed away in Wheaton Franciscan Hospital-All Saints on Sunday, May 31, 2009. She was born in Racine on May 2, 1915, the daughter of the late Jacob and Katherine (nee: Siminic) Klass.

Mrs. Scholzen had been employed by the Hamilton Beach Company and later retired from the Mamco Corporation in 1978. She was a longtime member of St. Richard of Chichester Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers and Altar Sodality, and the Mamco 20-Year Club. She was a die hard Cub’s fan and wished she could live long enough to see them in another World Series.

Surviving are her three children, Nancy Belongia, her children, Pamela Belongia and Keith (Analyn) Belongia, all of Racine, David Scholzen, his children, Karen Ann (Jeff) Lisiecki, their children, Jaden and Ryan of Eagle, WI, and Michael David ( Martha Villalobos and her son Orlando) Scholzen, of Kenosha and his son Teddy Scholzen, Patricia (Michael) Koutelakis of Racine, their daughter, Christina Maria (Panagiotis) Xytakis, and their children Angela and Nicholas all of Chios, Greece. Her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends further survive her.

Mrs. Scholzen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ted, on Sept. 17, 1993; beloved granddaughter Susan Belongia-Stock; brothers and sisters, Frank Klass, Mary Luedtke, John Klass, Kathryn Hoffman, Joseph Klass, and Theresa Johnson, also preceded her in death.

Her con-celebrated Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 4, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Richard of Chichester Catholic Church, 15th and Grand Ave., with Rev. Ronald J. Gramza and Rev. Edwin J. Kersten O.S.A. officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and in the church on Thursday from 9:30 .a.m. until the time of the service. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. The family has suggested memorials to, St. Richard’s Church, Lincoln Lutheran Facilities, or St. Catherine’s High School.

Curtis W. Hipke

Red Granite, WI -- Curtis W. Hipke, age 87, passed away early Saturday morning, May 30, 2009 at Froedtert Memorial Hospital, Milwaukee. Curtis was born Iron River, WI, on April 2, 1922, son of the late Benjamin and Inez (nee:Barr ) Hipke.

He grew up in Ashland, WI, and graduated from Ashland High School. During World War II, Curt proudly served in the U.S. Army. Curt resided in Racine for 30 years, working for Marigold Dairy and owning and operating a Mobil Gas Station on Durand Avenue. In 1969 Curt became an over-the-road semi truck driver and moved to Red Granite, where he was employed with Schneider Transportation for over twenty years, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his children, Dennis Hipke, Bonnie Hipke, Jeri (Bob) Fisher, Jodi Jensen, Trace (Mark) Stainbrook and Teri Gemmell, all of Racine; grandchildren, Dan Hipke (Vicki Anderson), Jerame (Maria) Leger, Kaitlin and Nicholas Stainbrook, Gina (Douglas) Behr, Viki (David) Murray, Tami (Phil) Swaine; great-grandchildren, April, Yenessa, Estreya, Colton and Kennedy; a sister, Ethel Hamilton of Spokane, WA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Curtis was also preceded in death by his grandson, Brian Hipke; his brother, Howard (Vi) Hipke; and two sisters, Myrtle Blahnik and Grace Block.

A Memorial Service with full military honors will be held Monday, June 15, 2009, at noon at the funeral home with Reverend Walter Hermanns officiating. Interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of service.

Leslie S. Jacob

Leslie Jacob, 81, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, May 30, 2009.

Leslie was born in Racine on July 10, 1927, son of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Jacob. He was united in marriage to the former Antoinette “Pat” Pawlowsky on April 26, 1958. Leslie served in the U.S. Army at the end of World War II. He retired from J.I. Case Company on August 1, 1987. Leslie was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.

Leslie is survived by his wife, Antoinette “Pat” Jacob; sons, Kurt Jacob of Milwaukee, Paul (Linda) Jacob and Gregg (Laurie) Jacob both of Racine; daughter, Susan (Paul) Bisswurm of Racine; grandchildren, David and Naomi Jacob, and Ryan and Danny Bisswurm; and sister-in-law, Jane Jacob. Leslie is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Andrew Jacob, Jr.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and Art Schatzley, and Charlotte and Bernie Stuckey; nephew, Benjamin Stuckey; and niece, Charlotte Ann Pfeiffer.

A Memorial Mass for Leslie will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St., on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at 10 a.m. celebrated by Rev. William Dietzler. Edna Y. Cheever

Edna Yvonne (nee: Knudtson) Cheever, 71, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2009, at Froedtert Memorial Hospital in Wauwatosa. She was born in Eau Claire on November 5, 1937, the daughter of Selmer and Bernice (nee: Nelson) Knudtson. On December 11, 1959, Edna was united in marriage to Alvin E. Cheever in Eau Claire. Edna enjoyed all types of puzzles and also enjoyed traveling.

Surviving is her husband, Alvin; sons, Dale Cheever, Daniel (Tammy) Cheever, DuWayne Cheever, Jeffery (Gina) Cheever; daughters, Dawn (Howard) Jorgensen, Pamela (Jim) Jandron, Joan (Jac) Cole; sisters, Beatrice (William) Tumm, Phyllis Radle, Ione (Charles) Anderson, , Lois Knudtson; brothers, Arthur (Florence) Knudtson and Edward (Darlene) Knudtson, brother in law, Pete Tumm and 13 grandchildren. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Edna was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Tumm; and a brother in law, Herman Radle.

LaDawn Rose Petersen

Mrs. LaDawn Rose (nee: NyLand) Petersen, 45, passed away at St. Lukes Medical Center in Milwaukee on Friday, May 29, 2009.

Mrs. Petersen was born on September 25, 1963, in Las Vegas to Wallace and Shirley (nee: Wilson) NyLand. LaDawn was married to Rodney J. Petersen in Racine on June 19, 2005. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, a Braille worker volunteer, on the board of Christian Care and enjoyed many crafts.

LaDawn is survived by her husband, Rodney J. Petersen; one son, Thomas Lahey; one step-son, Rodney J. Petersen II; two step-daughter’s, Heather Maire Petersen and Katrina Overstreet; five grandchildren, other relatives and friends. LaDawn is preceded in death by grandmother, Gloria Massey.

Memorail services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 3700 Washington Ave., on Friday, June 05,2009, at 7 p.m. with Rev. Thomas Chryst officiating. Dorothy G. Muller

Dorothy G. Muller, age 86, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center. Dorothy was born in Racine, April 1, 1923, daughter of the late Nicholas and Martha (Nee: Bruce) Muller.

She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir and was Vice President of Trinity Ladies Aid for twenty years. She graduated from William Horlick High School “Class of 1941.” She worked for Western Advertising Agency/Bozell and Jacobs Inc. for forty-two years, retiring in 1983. Dorothy was a wonderful gourmet cook. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her three sisters, Leone Muller, Marie Peil, and Alice J. Hudec; dear friends, cousins and special cousins from the Freylange, Belgium, area and other relatives. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her infant brother, Jean Matthew Muller; and brothers-in-law, Glen Peil, and Paul Hudec.

Rev. Stephen E. Jennings officiated at private funeral services, followed by interment at Mound Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Ladies Aid or Trinity Lutheran School Tuition Support Program.

Ruth (Peppers) Holston

Ruth Holston, beloved mother and aunt, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Ruth was born in Holmes County, Mississippi, on April 21, 1930, to the late Northern and Geneva Peppers Sr.

On January 24, 1955, Ruth married John E. Holston Jr., who preceded her in death March 10, 1989. In that union, one son John Holston III was born. Ruth worked for St. Luke’s Hospital for thirty five years, retiring in 1984. Ruth was well known for her immaculate flowers and grass which gave her great joy. She was a faithful member of St. Richard’s Catholic Church. Ruth and her husband, John, were very social people and enjoyed their travels together. More than anything Ruth enjoyed her husband and son, and getting together with relatives for barbecues and picnics. She will be dearly missed.

Ruth is survived by her son John Holston III; three sisters, Magnolia (Howard) Anderson, Henrene Edwards and Mary Carr; four brothers, Northern (Zenobia) Peppers, Frank (Lois Morrisey) Peppers, Larry Peppers, John (Janet) Peppers; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Mary Alice Brown; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Alberta Holston; brothers-in-law, T.J. Carr Sr. and Frank Edwards; nephews, Manuel Carr, TJ Carr Jr. and Jerry Carr.

Lee A. Matthews

Sturtevant, WI -- Lee A. Matthews, age 78, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Kindred Hospital, Greenfield, WI. He was born in Milwaukee, WI, on September 8, 1930, son of the late Henry and Helen (Nee: Stronke) Matthews.

Lee was employed for 25 years at Allen Bradley Company and went on to own and operate Sturtevant Rework and Assembly for seven years. He then worked for the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development in Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha, retiring from Unified Solutions INC.

Lee was an accomplished musician and trombonist. He was an original member of the Allen Bradley Orchestra and Chorus and played for various other bands including the bands of Steve Swedish, Bob Stevens, Russ Roland, Ted Wayne, John Bunic, Chet Zientek, the West Allis Concert Band, the Racine Concert Band, the Kenosha Pops, the Wilson Knights, and Newman Senior Band among others. He belonged to the Milwaukee Musician’s Union and was looking forward to leading his band on top of a circus wagon at the upcoming circus parade as he had done for many years. Lee was a member of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, the Masons and the Shriners. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his son, Doug and fiancé, Wendi Britton, and sons Derek and Dillon, all of Escanaba, MI; cousins, Helen (Rick) Fliss, Leslie (Robert) Osborn, Maryann Krepczynski, all of Milwaukee; and other relatives dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward.

A Memorial Service will be held at Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, 1700 S. Green Bay Road, Racine, on Sunday, May 31, 2009, at 3 p.m. with Rev. Dave Echelbarger officiating. Frances Ziemann

Lindenhurst, IL -- Frances (nee; Neff) Ziemann, 86, formerly of Racine, passed away at Victory Lakes Skilled Nursing Facility in Lindenhurst, IL, on Thursday May 28, 2009. Frances was born in Eldon, Iowa, on May 21, 1923, the daughter of Walter and Bertha (nee: Curtis) Neff.

She was united in marriage to Otto Ziemann in Chicago, IL. Otto and Frances retired to Savannah, Georgia, for 17 years, where they enjoyed playing golf and Frances began her art career at Savannah College of Art and Design. She and Otto returned to Racine full time and Frances received a bachelor’s degree in art from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in 2000, sixty years following their graduation from McKinley High School.

Frances is survived by her children, Pamela and her husband, Charles Hudson of Racine, Timothy P. and his wife, Sharron Ziemann of Lake Villa, IL., and Andrew O. and his wife, Jeanne Ziemann of Lilburn, GA.; six grandchildren, Sarah (Rafael Aguero), Amy (fiancé Jeremy Edling), Timothy Jr., Rachel and her husband Andrew Candler, Andrew, and Alexander and honorary grandson, Thomas Dang Vu. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends in Racine and Illinois.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Otto, on October 10, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at Siena Center, 5635 Erie St., Racine, at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2009. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home, 3014 Northwestern Ave., Racine on Sunday May 31, 2009, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. and at Siena Center on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Leo J. Pucely

Leo J. Pucely, 95, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 27, 2009. Leo was born in Racine on December 17, 1913, to John and Jennie (Yarina) Pucely.

Leo loved the farm where he lived his entire life. He spent most of his life farming and working at various manufacturing companies. He loved to spend time walking on his farm enjoying nature. Leo was a simple man enjoying the simple things in life. Family was the most important thing in life to Leo. He loved spending time with his many nieces, nephews, their children and took good care of his parents.

Leo is survived by his brother-in-law, Robert (Mary) Scott; and sister-in-law, Lucy Pucely. Leo is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sister-in-law, Edward Pucely, Carl Pucely, Emil and Rose Pucely; sisters and brother-in-law, Elsie Scott, Victoria and Jack Hanson; and niece, Marya Pucely.

Visitation for Leo will be held at the funeral home on this Sunday afternoon, May 31, 2009, from 2 until 3:30 p.m. A time of Sharing will be held at 3:30 p.m. Private entombment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Memorial may be directed to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

Gloria L. 'Marty' LaSchiava

Gloria L. “Marty” LaSchiava, 71, passed away at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center on Wednesday, May 27, 2009.

Marty was born in Racine on September 21, 1937, to Frederick and Ella (nee: Nelson) Paeth. She worked for Andis Clipper until her retirement. Marty enjoyed puzzles and going to the Theater Guild. She was a Rat Pack and Frank Sinatra fan. Most importantly she lived her life for her family.

Marty is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Bob Schroeder; grandchildren, Robert LaSchiava, Joshua Potter, who is currently serving his country in Iraq, and Ann Rose Schroeder; great-grandchild, Julian LaSchiava; brothers and sisters, Don (Joan) Paeth, Marilyn (Jim) Kaiser, Bob Paeth and Alice (Delmar) Burman. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her longtime companion, Walter Barth in 1991.

A memorial service for Marty will be held at the funeral home on Monday, June 1, 2009, at 7 p.m. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5 p.m. until the time of services.

James W. Pfister

James W. Pfister, age 78, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Woodstock Health and Rehabilitation Center, Kenosha, WI. James was born in Racine, July 2, 1930, son of the late Francis X. and Emma V. (Nee: Bergstrom) Pfister.

James was employed by Walker Manufacturing for many years and was a member of St. Richard Catholic Church.

Survivors include his brother and sister, Richard (Gwen) Pfister of Springfield, VA, Helen (Ray) Kucharski of Sun City, AZ; sister-in-law, Joan Pfister of Brookfield; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Francis X. Pfister Jr. and Robert (Adeline) Pfister.

David McClelland

David Laurence McClelland, 69, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Dave was born in Saginaw County, Michigan, on October 14, 1939, the son of the late Harold and Kathryn (nee: Herron) McClelland.

Dave graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Chemical Engineering, and he remained an avid fan of the Michigan Wolverines as well as the Detroit Tigers. He was a long-time member of the University of Michigan Alumni Association.

He was united in marriage to Kay Frances Kennedy on August 29, 1958, at the Methodist Church in Henderson, Michigan. The couple moved to Racine in 1962, where Dave began his 30-year employment with S.C. Johnson. During his tenure they lived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Mexico City, Mexico, where they developed many wonderful, lifelong friendships. Following his retirement in 1992, Dave formed JST Investments with his wife Kay and son Scott. The company was named for his three sons and invests in rental properties.

Reunions with his brothers and sister always turned into story-telling fests with lots of laughter. For the last twenty years the greatest joy he had was time spent with his grandchildren. Dave especially loved golfing with family and friends at Meadowbrook Country Club, where he recorded three holes in one, the most recent on May 3. He enjoyed travel and had many fun golfing trips with his friends. Dave and Kay traveled extensively and usually found a few golf courses along the way.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty years, Kay; his sons and daughters-in-law, Scott (Joy) McClelland of Racine, Tony (Ashley) McClelland of Normal, IL, Lori McClelland of Phoenix, AZ; his grandchildren, Jeremie (Angela), Melanie (Eric), Shannon (Eric), Peter, Jack, Will, Sean, Conner, Lilly, Maribelle and Elly; his three great-grandchildren, Cyril, Angel and Tyler; sister and brothers, Jane Widener of New Bern, NC, Alex McClelland of Henderson, MI, Daniel (Sharon) McClelland of Fenton, MI, Doug (Judy) McClelland of Oakley, MI; mother-in-law Erma Criner of Elsie, MI; brothers-in-law Jim Kennedy of Fort Worth, TX ,and Paul (Gayle) Kennedy of Troutville, VA; nieces, nephews; his best golfing buddies, Ron Kraus and Russ Carlson and the other golfers at Meadowbrook; good friends William Gibb and Bill McFadden in Mexico City; the TON golf group in San Antonio, Texas; other relatives and many dear friends. Leona M. Popadick-Borger

Kenosha – Leona M. Popadick-Borger, 85, formerly of Racine, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2009, at Brookside Care Center in Kenosha.

Leona was born in Milwaukee on February 15, 1924, to the late Clarence and Isabelle (nee: Brown) Kaltenbach. She lived all of her life in Racine until moving to Kenosha in 1970. Leona attended Washington Jr. High and Horlick High School.

On June 30, 1945, she was united in marriage with her first love and father of her children, William Popadick, who died unexpectedly at the young age of 47 on January 13, 1966. On June 13, 1970, she married Henry Borger, who preceded her in death on August 18, 1991.

For many years, Leona and Will owned / operated the Delta Drive-In Restaurant on Sheridan Road. Later in life, she was a successful sales rep. for Mary Kay Cosmetics. Leona was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Women's League, and the Women of the Moose in Kenosha. Among her interests, she enjoyed travelling, bowling and tending to her pets. Most importantly, Leona offered a lifetime of positive support and endless love to her children and grandchildren, cherishing all the special times they shared together.

Sister Bernadette Leduc, O.P.

Sister Bernadette Leduc, O.P., 83, passed away at Siena Center, Racine on Sunday, May 24, 2009.

Emilianna Leduc was born July 8, 1925, to Wilfred and Martina (nee: Forget) Leduc in Detroit, MI. On January 23, 1943, she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1944 she was given the religious name Sister Bernadette. She professed her first vows in 1946 and her final vows in 1952.

Sister Bernadette spent many years in service to others in teaching and pastoral care. She began her ministry in 1945 at Holy Name, Racine, WI. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were SS. Peter & Paul, Green Bay; Holy Angels, Milwaukee; St. Aloysius, Sauk City; and Holy Cross, Kaukauna. In California she served at St. Joseph Academy and St. Joseph Parish in Fontana. She also served in Michigan at Nativity, Assumption Grotto, and Patronage of St. Joseph in Detroit; St. Clement, Centerline; Casa Maria, Imlay City; and Hospital Hospitality House, Saginaw. Later she continued to serve others by doing home care or elder care in Warren and Roseville, MI. She became a resident at Siena Center, Racine in January 2007.

Sister Bernadette is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her brothers, Raymond (Pauline), Gerald (Pearl Marie), and John Albert (Mary) LeDuc; and sisters, Remonne Cardinal, and Elaine DeFever; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Lucille Grodi and Cecilia Chronister; and brothers-in-law, Arnold Grodi, Jack Cardinal and Henry Chronister.

Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Thursday, May 28, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 2:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 4 p.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.

Henry 'Hank' Johnson

Henry “Hank” Johnson, 81, of Sturtevant passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009, following a short illness. He was born April 30, 1928, in Union County, Illinois, to Henry Vernon and Mae (Hawkins) Johnson.

He attended Wolf Lake High School, Wolf Lake, Illinois. He served in the United States Navy from 1945 until 1948 in the Pacific Theater as a deep sea diver. Following his discharge from the Navy he moved to Sturtevant to join his uncles working for the Milwaukee Road Railroad. It was in Sturtevant that he met Betty Gastrow. They were married May 21, 1949, at Holy Communion Lutheran Church in Racine, celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary last week. They have lived their entire married life in Sturtevant.

Hank was very active in the community as a member of the Sturtevant Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, serving as Chief in the mid-1960s. He coached Pony League and Colt League Youth Baseball for more than 25 years, leaving an indelible mark on the youth of the community.

He served as Sturtevant’s Civil Defense Coordinator for more than 30 years and was a member of the Village’s Police and Fire Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals for many years. Hank was a charter member of the Sturtevant Lions Club, serving many terms as President, as well as Secretary, Treasurer and most other offices during the 38 years reign of the club. He was a member and Past Commander of VFW Post #9948.

In 1979 he was named the Sturtevant Man of the Year by the Sturtevant Chamber of Commerce and was honored to throw out the first pitch for the Milwaukee Brewers at County Stadium. He was honored by the Village of Sturtevant with the naming of the South Park Baseball Fields for him and his fellow baseball coach, Duane Fink. He received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Village of Sturtevant in 1993 for more than 23 years of faithful service to the community in all capacities.

He worked at J.I. Case Company from 1957 until his retirement in 1990 as a welder and millwright and was a 33-year member of Local 180 UAW. He was also employed by Western Printing and Racine Plating Company after leaving the railroad.

Hank is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Bob Collins of East Troy; son and daughter-in-law, John and Beth Johnson of Sturtevant, five grandchildren, Tim (Katey) and Steve (Amy) Collins, Kristi (Jamie) Opper, Scott (Kim) and Dan Johnson; and two step-grandchildren, Nick (Dina) and Noah Wood; as well as five great-grandchildren, Calvin, Carter, Lilah, and Brady Collins, and Dylan Johnson. He is further survived by one brother, Bill (Donna) Taylor of Kentucky; two aunts, Dorothy Smiddy and Jane Duncan of Illinois; one sister-in-law, Shirley Mau of Sturtevant; one brother-in-law, William (Ruth) Gastrow of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

Visitation will be at the Draeger Langendorf Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 27, 2009, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the evening and on Thursday, May 28, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at the U.S. Veterans Cemetery, Union Grove.

Kenneth Joseph Fronsee

Kenneth Joseph Fronsee, 68, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, May 24, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center following an inspirational battle with cancer.

Ken was born in Stephenson, Michigan, on November 26, 1940, to the late Emmanuel and Kathryn (nee: Mathias) Fronsee. He graduated from Menominee High School in 1958. On October 16, 1965, in Kenosha, Ken was united in marriage with the love of his life, Karen J. Glerum.

In 1964, Ken began a long and successful career with Monroe Systems for Business, retiring as a District Field Engineer Manager in 1996. He served as a Trustee / Finance Director for the Village of Elmwood Park from 1987-1991. Ken was also a well-respected Advisory Board Member for Waukesha County Technical College from 1987-1999. Among his interests, he enjoyed playing golf, working with computers, and repairing things. Above all, Ken loved and cherished his entire family and friends - always giving, caring and supporting them.

With a profound faith in God, he was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church. Throughout his valiant struggle with cancer, Ken always placed his trust in God and never complained about the battles he had to fight. A walking miracle to say the least, Ken overcame the diagnosis of paralysis and continued to fight for his life with great determination.

Surviving are his loving wife of over 43 years, Karen; son, Kenneth E. (Sharon) Fronsee; daughter, Kelly A. (Boychen) Bradshaw; grandchildren, Michael and Hadyn; brothers, Jack (Judy) Fronsee, Thomas (Nancy) Fronsee and Joseph (Victoria) Fronsee; Karen’s parents, Edwin and Leona Glerum; sisters-in-law, Patricia Rossman, Sue (Thomas) Bernhardt, Kathleen (Peter) Knopfhart, Kristine (Tom) Barndollar, Geralyn (Scott Pregent) Willding and Anne Benson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name.

In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his sisters, Patricia Fronsee, Liela (Larry) Fry and Ann Fronsee.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at 11 a.m. in St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave., with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Martin Terpstra

Martin Terpstra, 89, passed away at Ridgewood Care Center on Sunday, May 24, 2009.

Marty was born in Racine on August 28, 1919, to Martin and Jennie (nee, Krotz) Terpstra. He married the former Lois Neu who preceded him in death. Marty enlisted in the Army in December 1942 and was assigned to the 39th Combat Engineer Battalion where his lifelong passion for motorcycles served him well as a frontline courier. He participated in the invasion of Sicily, the campaign in Naples, the liberation of Rome and into the Northern Alps. He was honorably discharged in October of 1945. He worked as a truck driver for many years before retiring from Payne & Dolan in the early '80s.

Marty is survived by his children, William (Linda) Terpstra and Nancy (Bill Stanovich) Terpstra; grandchildren, Jim (Caron) Truesdill, Jennifer (Pete) Rodrigues, Ryan (Jewel) Dobbie and Robyn (Jason) Simrell; and four great-grandchildren. Marty is also survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Truesdill.

Private family services will be held. Interment will take place in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.

Sister Margaret Ann Dresang, O.P.

Sister Margaret Ann Dresang, O.P., 90, passed away at Lakeshore Manor, Racine on Saturday, May 23, 2009.

Mary Elizabeth Dresang was born October 26, 1918, to Christopher and Margaret (nee: Nussbaum) Dresang in Appleton, Wisconsin. On October 26, 1935, she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1936 she was given the religious name Sister Margaret Ann. She professed her first vows in 1938 and her final vows in 1944.

Sister Margaret Ann spent many years in service to others in teaching. She began her ministry in 1937 at Sacred Heart, Racine, WI. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were St. Bernard, Madison; SS. Peter and Paul, Green Bay; St. Mary, Holy Name and St. Joseph, Racine; St. Benedict, Milwaukee; St. Louis, Caledonia; Holy Name Kimberly; St. Norbert, Roxbury; St. Mary and St. Anthony, Kenosha; and St. Mary, Mayville. She also served in Michigan and New Mexico. She became a resident at Siena Center in 1990 and continued to serve in the Senior Companion Program. She moved to Lakeshore Manor two weeks ago.

Sister Margaret Ann is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her sister, Roseal (Fred) Hauser; sisters-in-law, Elda Dresang and Margie Dresang; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and her brothers, Nick, Bernard, Norman, Norbert and an infant brother; sisters, Catherine, Elizabeth, Anna, Margaret, Magdalen and an infant sister.

James Neil Peterson

Delavan – James N. Peterson, 85, passed away at Mercy Hospital in Janesville on May 22, 2009.

James Peterson was born in Racine, Wisconsin, to the late Dr. Ralph and Anna (nee: Hohl) Peterson on October 18, 1923, and had lived most of his life in Racine. He was united in marriage to Judith A. Mickelsen in Chicago, Illinois, on November 28, 1969.

James proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He graduated from St. John's Military Academy and upon returning from service in Italy became an instructor of Military Science there. As a graduate of Marquette University, he earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation, he was employed as a sales representative and retired as a supervisor of shipping and receiving. He was a former member of Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was an avid fisherman, a member of the Masonic Lodge, 32nd degree Mason, American Legion and Disabled Veterans.

James will be dearly missed by his wife, Judith, of 40 years; two children, son James (Yvonne) Peterson, and daughter, Jane Ann Peterson, who preceded him in death; grandchildren, Nadine, Erik, Tina, Neil; a step-son, David, and family; two special brothers-in-law, Robert (Dorly) Mickelsen and Thomas Mickelsen; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rodney Peterson.

Sgt. 1st Class Brian K. Naseman

Sgt. 1st Class Brian K. Naseman, 36, died while serving our Country with the U.S. Army – 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team – 108th Forward Support Company, attached to the 2nd Battalion in Iraq on Friday, May 22, 2009.

Brian was born in St. Mary’s, Ohio, on July 13, 1972, to Richard and Diane (nee: Schmitmeyer) Naseman. A 1990 graduate of New Bremen High School, he went on to attend Wright State University and Ohio State University pursuing a degree in Education. Soon after, Brian began his 20-year career with the Army National Guard. Brian originally served with the Ohio Army National Guard, before transferring to the Wisconsin Army National Guard from where he had been deployed to Kuwait and Iraq. While serving, Brian also worked as a laborer for Masonry Specialists.

On March 20, 1999, Brian was united in marriage with the love of his life, Peggy E. Chmielewski. They are now members of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, VFW Post 1865 and the Wisconsin Field Artillery Assn. Among his interests, Brian enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing and shooting archery with his sons. People were naturally drawn to Brian’s outgoing, compassionate character. Above all, Brian was a true family man who loved and cherished being in the surroundings of his entire family, friends and fellow Service Members; but most of all with his wife and children. Brian is a Hero to our entire Nation.

Surviving are his heart-broken wife, Peggy; their adored sons, Cole (age 9) and Carter (age 7); parents, Richard and Diane Naseman; sisters, Lori Buroker, Christy (Jason) Eilerman and Sandra (Scott) Wendeln; Peggy’s parents, Shirley and Carl Chmielewski; brother-in-law, Jeff (Kandie) Chmielewski; sisters-in-law, Cindy Becker and Kristine (David) Ricchio; devoted friends, Scott Krebs, Scott Toutant, Danny Toutant, Scott Seymour, Colin Hackney, Patrick Ball and Nick Hamilton; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name.

Mary V. (Wirry) Weill

Mary V. Weill, age 92, passed away Friday, May 22, 2009, at Franciscan Villa, South Milwaukee, WI. Mary was born in Racine, February 2, 1917, daughter of the late Albert and Rosa (Nee: Frantz) Wirry.

Mary was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Church and on October 11, 1941, she was united in marriage to Edward Weill who preceded her in death, November 18, 1984. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed. Above everything Mary treasured time spent with her family. She was last employed by Color Arts. Mary was an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching baseball and the Green Bay Packers.

Survivors include her children, Marilyn (Clayton) Venne of Racine, David (Linda Lea) Weill of Racine, Timothy (Faye) Weill of Nashville, TN, Donald (Julie) Weill of Waukesha, WI; grandchildren, Sandra (John) Quella, Mark (Debbie) Venne, Theresa (Domingo) Flores, Todd Weill, Tracy Weill, Bridget (Phillip) Wadley, Tina (Greg) Tollefsbol, Katie (Tim) Hanners, Jana Weill; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Lorry (John) Murphy of Racine; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Andrew B. Schaefer

Andrew B. Schaefer, 80, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare on Friday, May 22, 2009.

Andy was born in Racine on January 20, 1929, to Mikel and Marie (nee, Petz) Schaefer. He married the former Florence L. Krueger. She preceded him in death on July 29, 1996. Andy was a massage therapist for the West Suburban YMCA in Wauwatosa, retiring from the Racine YMCA. He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church and was a true friend to many.

Andy is survived by his children, Mary Mueller, Margaret Highland, Roy (Nadine) Schaefer, Carolyn (Dane) Placko and Bonnie (Steve) Johnson; daughter-in-law, Loanna Schaefer; grandchildren, Michael Schaefer, Ross Schaefer, Ryan Schaefer, Grace Placko and Haley Placko; great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mart (Chuck) Halstead, Ida Seyferth and Esther Gallo; and special nephew, Bill (Dorothy) Povkovich. Robert P. 'Bob' Wiersum

Robert Wiersum, 52, died at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints on Thursday, May 21, 2009, after battling multiple health issues over the years.

A lifetime resident of Racine, he was born on July 2, 1956, to Myron and Carol (nee: Haumersen) Wiersum. He graduated from Washington Park High School.

Bob grew up attending Racine Bible Church. However he was most recently a member of Family Fellowship Church which developed under the Friends of the Family Home Ministries in Racine. As a Christian man, Bob enjoyed doing God’s work. A longtime volunteer with Friends of the Family, Bob helped run the ministry’s food pantry where over ¾ of a ton of food was distributed daily to those in need.

Bob also enjoyed his time woodworking, fishing, taking photographs and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, his survivors include his sister, Jean (John) Friesema of Woodland Park, CO; sister-in-law, Marla Wiersum of Racine; nieces and nephews, Kari (Jason) Masilian of Racine, Jason (Tricia) Friesema, Josh (Anne-Marie) Friesema both of Woodland Park, CO, John (Annie) Friesema of Colorado Springs, CO; great-nieces and nephews, Noah, Keziah, Ellie, Issac, Kenny, Ava, Jett and Cole; as well as other dear relatives and friends. Bob’s brother, Ted Wiersum, preceded him in death.

Family and friends are invited to meet at the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at 6 p.m. for the celebration of Bob’s life with his minister and friend, Pastor Scott Miller officiating. Janet Lee Madsen

Janet Lee (nee: Manske) Madsen passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at the age of 77 after a long, courageous battle with lymphoma. Janet was born on March 27, 1932, in Racine, the daughter of Bernard and Lolita Manske.

She graduated from William Horlick High School and went to Spencerian College secretarial school and began working at Johnson Wax. On March 29, 1952, she was united in marriage to Russell H. Madsen. While living in Racine, Janet held numerous jobs including a secretary in the advertising department at Johnson Wax, and as an assistant Librarian at Jerstad-Agerholm Middle school. She eventually began a career in real estate as a Realtor that lasted over 30 years in both Racine and Denver, CO.

Janet was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She sang in the choir, was a member of the St. Paul’s Junior League and spent many years organizing the yearly church rummage sale.

Janet enjoyed family gatherings, cooking and spending time with her late, beloved partner Bill Benecke. She especially loved the time she had with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her sons; Steven (Connie) Madsen and Christian (Kendra Schimke) Madsen; proud grandmother to Kirsten Madsen, James Madsen, Connor, Chase, and Carter Madsen; and great-grandmother to Bradley and Alexandra Madsen; brothers, Tom (Shirley) Manske and Fred Manske; aunt to Dr. Eric (Dr. Jennifer) Manske, Jennifer (Jonathon) Fenske, Heather (Evan) Mann, Christopher Manske, Owen (Lisa) Manske, Nicole (Tony) Tempesta, Melissa (Lance) Kingery, Loren (Martha) Manske; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends. In addition, she was a lifelong friend of Auralie Frazier, Marilyn Lehner, Mary Moore, Carol Svoren and Jean Abegglen.

John A. Gallo

John A. Gallo, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare. He was born in Racine on February 6, 1965, son of Gerald and Patricia (Nee: Monahan) Gallo.

John was a graduate of Park High School, “Class of 1983.” He furthered his education at Gateway Technical College and Carthage College. During John’s career he was employed in various capacities in retail at the Boston Store, J.C. Penney and last working for Wal-Mart as a photo technician. He enjoyed shopping and had a great love for traveling.

He is survived by his parents, Gerald and Patricia; aunts and uncles, Roy (Alice) Wiberg, Fred Linderman, Eloise (Don) Karkow, David (Romie) Gallo, Esther Gallo; cousins other relatives and many dear friends. Preceded in death by his grandparents, Ralph and Margaret Alswager, Edward Monahan, John and Emilia Gallo, aunt Myrtle Linderman, uncle Ralph Gallo and his cousin David Gallo.

Carol Marie Gray

Waukesha, WI – Mrs. Carol M. Gray passed away peacefully at dawn with her daughter at her side at the Virginia Health and Rehabilitation Center in Waukesha on May 20, 2009. She was 88 years old.

Carol was born on March 2, 1921 in Racine, WI to Carl and Amelia Lindblad.

Until moving to Waukesha in 2001, Carol lived all but three years of her life in Racine. On Christmas Day 1943, she was wed to Jack Gray who was serving in the Army during wartime. He called her his “Christmas Carol." After the war, Jack and Carol began a family. They devoted their lives to each other and their children. Family meant everything to them. Holidays and family reunions were very special. Carol and Jack shared a strong faith in Jesus Christ. As did her parents and siblings, Carol had a gift for music and writing. Carol and Jack also enjoyed traveling. There was at least one family camping adventure each summer. After Jack retired in 1982, he and Carol made several trips to the Pacific Northwest to visit their daughter and grandson.

Carol’s blue eyes and sweet smile will be sadly missed by her son, John (Kathy) Gray of Waukesha, WI; and her daughter, Karen J. Neuman of Puyallup, WA; her grandchildren, Erica (Mark) Lange of Phoenix, AZ, Erin (Robert) Crawford of Waukesha, WI, and Matthew (Sierra) Neuman of McCall, ID; seven great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kevin, and Keegan Lange, Logan, Skylar, and Paige Crawford, and Della Rose Neuman; and her sisters, Jean Robinson of Minneola, FL, and Mary Ellen (Don) Staff of Racine. She is also survived by 29 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Schuyler Gray, on October 20, 1991; her brothers, John, Elliott, Paul, and Wesley Lindblad; and her sister, Nancie (Rigoletto) DiMilo.

Tony (Efraim) Evreniadis

Surrounded by his family, Tony (Efraim) Evreniadis passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at his residence. He was born on June 10, 1919, in Asia Minor, son of Dimitri and Despina Evreniadis. On January 29, 1939, in Greece he was united in marriage to Sophia Kouimtzidis. In 1968, together with their children, they immigrated to the United States.

Tony was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a member of the Kimissis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church in Racine and was also a member of AHEPA.

Survivors include his seven children, Grace (Christos) Kourtsidis of Canada, Dimitri (Theodoula) Evreniadis of Greece, Stephanie Larsen, Mary (Ted) Karapanos, Stavros Evreniadis, Olympia (Lefterios) Veziridis, and Joseph (Virginia) Evreniadis of Racine. There are 21 grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sophia, in 2004; a brother, Hajis; sister-in-law, Anne; and a great-grandson, James Efraim.

Visitation and funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at Kimissis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, 1335 S. Green Bay Rd. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. with Rev, John Ketchum officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Frederick William Witt

Frederick W. Witt, 88, passed away at Harmony Living Center, on Wednesday May 20, 2009. He was born in Racine on February 1, 1921, the son of Fred J. and Martha V. (Pooch) Witt.

Fred served in the U.S. Army in the 163rd Field Artillery Battalion, 38th Infantry Division in the Central and South Pacific and the Philippines. He was employed as a Certified Public Accountant in Racine since 1952, retiring after 55 years of service.

Fred is survived by two sisters, Cecilia (Edward) Westberg of Sheboygan and Esther Witt of Milwaukee; friend and former wife, Jean Witt of Racine; and sister-in-law, Sylvia Witt of Los Altos, Calif.; he is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, colleagues, and dear friends.

Fred was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Paul Witt.

Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1501 Erie Street, on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Daniel Quinn officiating. Burial will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

Carl E. Christensen

Carl E. Christensen, 84, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday May 19, 2009, with his family by his side. He was born in Racine on May 1, 1925, the son of Christ M. and Agnes (nee: Winther) Christensen. Carl was united in marriage to Mabel R. Sherwood, in Prairie du Chien on June 28, 1952. They enjoyed 57 years together. He proudly served in the United States Navy-Seabees, during World War II.

Carl’s Christian faith and beliefs guided him through his life and helped him through his longtime illness. He was employed at S.C. Johnson as a mechanic (boiler operator) retiring after many years of service.

Carl found great enjoyment in golf, fishing, bowling, hunting, skiing, country rides, family get-togethers and travels.

Carl is survived by his wife, Mabel, and their daughter, Cheryl Christensen, both of Racine; brothers, Gordon (Martha) Christensen of Sun City, FL, and Jim (Hildagarde) Christensen; sisters, Helen (Sam) Kachichian and Mary (Bernie) Tucker all of Racine; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harry (Barb) Sherwood of Neenah. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, and nephew, Tom Christensen.

Margaret 'Marge' Rose Oksiuta

RACINE and BELLEAIR BEACH, FL – Margaret ‘Marge’ Rose (nee: Bielmeier) Oksiuta, 81, Passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints. She was born in Wautoma on April 1, 1928, the daughter of Henry and Angeline (nee: Michalak) Bielmeier. Marge was united in marriage to Jerome Oksiuta on August 30, 1947, at Holy Redeemer Congregation in Milwaukee. Along with her husband, Jerome, they owned and operated Racine Cyclery, Inc. from 1956 to 1986. Marge was a hospice volunteer in Clearwater, FL.

Surviving is her husband of almost 62 years, Jerome; sons and daughers-in-law, Dr. Jerry (Susie) Oksiuta and Perry (Terri) Oksiuta all of Racine; grandchildren, Ben (Pam) Oksiuta, Dr. Jay Oksiuta, Jessica (Damian) Kosempa, Lee Oksiuta, Lauren Oksiuta and Conner Taylor; great-grandson, Damian Kosempa; sister, Joan Schlager; and brothers, Tom (Carol) Bielmeier and Henry (Sharon) Bielmeier. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Roger Allan Dehne

Roger Allan Dehne, 66, passed away after a short battle with cancer on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints. He was born in Bristol on June 9, 1942, the son of George and Esther (nee: Wendorf) Dehne.

Roger proudly served in the United States Army, and was honorably discharged in 1973. He had been employed at Young Radiator for 18 years until their closing and was then employed with One Hour Martinizing for 25 years. Roger will be remembered as a very loyal friend and for how he loved his pets.

Surviving is his partner of 34 years, Herman ‘Wally’ Wallace; five brothers, Ray (Ruth) Dehne, Robert Dehne, Richard Dehne, Fred (Jeannie) Dehne and Donny Dehne; five sisters, Elaine (John) Lopez, Joan (Mike) Jorgenson, Marjorie Wagner, Carol Lockhart and Sharon Street; and an aunt, Marion Wendorf. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Frank F. Bellovary

Frank Francis Bellovary, 92, passed away peacefully, the morning of Tuesday, May 19, 2009.

Frank was born in Gary, Indiana, on November 5, 1916, to Joseph & Anna (nee:Galvacsky) Bellovary.

Frank married his true love, Flora Antoinette Rago on February 1, 1941, at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church, where he has been a longtime member. He was employed at JI Case for 32 years retiring in 1975. He was a member of the Case 20-Year Club, Local 180 Retirees, Senior Advantage and the Lucyioners He was an avid gardener, loved his birds and was a fantastic cook (Best darn “Johnny-cakes” in town!).

Frank is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Flora; their three children, Joyce (Paul) Schenkenberg of Madison; Dorothy (William) Bushell of Racine and Frank D. Bellovary and Cathy Bellovary of Waukesha; grandchildren, Rebecca McCulloch, Scott (Debra) Schenkenberg, Christopher (Dianne) Schenkenberg, Ann (John) Burke, William D. Bushell (fiancé Wendy Bargholtz), Jane Bushell, Anthony (Hollie) Bellovary, and Nicholas (Angela) Bellovary; great-grandchildren, Erika and Jake McCulloch, Connor Schenkenberg, Alissa and Johnny Burke; Amanda, Sawyer, Ava and Eliza Bellovary. Frank was a traveler, gardener, fisherman and historian. He enjoyed and appreciated the simple pleasures in life. His greatest gift to others was his unconditional love and kindness. Grandpa loved to live and lived to love. Those who knew him well were blessed to have been touched by the life of a true gentle man.

Dagmar Kristine Riggsbee

Dagmar Kristine (nee: Sundby) Riggsbee, 86, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Walnut Grove. She was born in Hjyrimmen, Denmark, on February 25, 1923, the daughter of Andrew and Anna (nee: Christensen) Sundby.

Dagmar was a Washington Park High School graduate. On August 7, 1943, she was united in marriage to Orval Riggsbee at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. She and Orval made several memorable trips to Denmark and Hawaii. Dagmar was a member of Taylor Avenue Church of the Nazarene and a former member of Grace Church. She was a member of Danish Sisterhood and had been employed with Dremel Manufacturing for many years. Dagmar enjoyed doing needlepoint, which she shared with family and friends.

Surviving is her sister, Betty Kern; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orval on Feb 18, 1998; a brother, Roy; and her parents.

Services will be held at Taylor Avenue Church of the Nazarene, 2100 Taylor Ave., on Saturday, May 30, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. David F. Monroe officiating. Helen M. Prochacka

Helen Margaret (nee: Secanky) Prochacka, 87, passed away at 1:20 am on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, in Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center.

Helen was born in Racine on May 31, 1921, to the late Albert and Josephine (nee: Gasparec) Secanky. She graduated from Park High School in 1939.

On November 27, 1943, in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, she was united in marriage with John G. Prochacka, who preceded her in death on March 12, 2004.

Her top priority in life was being a full-time mother and homemaker. With a profound faith in God, Helen was a longtime member of St. Lucy Catholic Church. Among her interests, she enjoyed cooking, spending time in Door County, tending to her feline friends and, of course, praying her Rosary. Above all, she cherished being in the surroundings of her entire family.

Surviving are her son, John M. (Donna) Prochacka of Burlington; daughter, Nancy Suokko of Moab, Utah; grandsons, Zach Prochacka of Milwaukee and Abe Prochacka of Long Beach, CA; sister-in-law, Lorraine Secanky of Racine; brother-in-law, Michael (Gloria) Prochaska of Racine; special niece and nephew, Mary Lee and Barry Anderson of Racine; other dear relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by her brother, John Secanky; and daughter-in-law, Phyllis Prochacka.

Howard J. Magnuson

Boca Raton, FL -- Howard J. Magnuson, age 74, passed away in Florida, Monday morning, May 18,2009. Howard was born in Norway, MI, on January 5, 1935, son of the late Iver and Elsa (nee: Lindholm) Magnuson.

Howard served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Nuremburg, Germany. On September 17, 1960, at St. Rose Catholic Church, Howard was united in marriage to the former Charlotte Bubloni, who preceded him in death July 20, 1998.

Howard was last employed with the Southern Wisconsin Center until his retirement. In his earlier years he owned and operated his painting and decorating business. He was a conscientious and loyal worker who enjoyed dedicating his time to gardening, decorating, rehabbing homes and in general making things beautiful. He also enjoyed his travels in later years to England and Germany and around the country. He was a kind and decent man who will be fondly remembered for his fantastic sense of humor and as a loving husband, father and dear friend to many people. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his son, Christopher Magnuson (Robin Ruby) of Milwaukee; his daughter, Jennifer (Jorma) Louko of Nottingham, England; brother, Don (Vicki) Magnuson; niece and nephew, Cindy Magnuson and John Magnuson, all of Racine; mother-in-law, Violet Lindholm of MI; other relatives and friends. Marlene Ann LeAnna

Mrs. Marlene Ann LeAnna, 71, passed away at the Sheridan Medical Complex in Kenosha on May 18, 2009.

Marlene was born in Racine to the late George and Violet (nee: Erdmann) Wartzok on February 25, 1938. She had lived in Racine all her life. In Racine at the first United Methodist Church she was united in marriage to Rodney J. LeAnna on September 10, 1960.

Mrs. LeAnna was a member of Christ Church United Methodist. She was also a member of Thursday Night Dartball League and Monday Afternoon Senior Dartball League. Mrs. LeAnna was employed at Shopko for 22 years until her retirement. She was known for the cookies she baked for Christmas. She was an avid flower gardener, enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, and playing with her grand-dog, Jake.

Marlene will be dearly missed by her husband of 48 years, Rodney; her three children, Mike, Dawn, and Tim LeAnna; her brother and sister-in-law, George (Nancy) Wartzok Jr.; two aunts and uncles, Shirley (Gary) Long and Carl (Gloria) Hort; a special friend, Karen Wings; and other relatives and friends.

Thomas F. Cotteleer

Thomas F. Cotteleer, 66, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 17, 2009.

Tom was born in Evanston, IL, on August 28, 1942, to the late Joseph and Margaret (nee: Vlach) Cotteleer. He lived in Barrington, Palatine and Prairie Grove, Illinois, before moving to Racine in 1994. Tom made his winter homes in Florida at the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo and, most recently, at the Summit Greens Adult Community in Clermont.

On January 1, 1983, in Las Vegas, NV, he was united in marriage with Lonita “Lonnie” (nee: Serpe).

A 1960 graduate of Notre Dame High School of Niles, IL, Tom went on to earn his BA in Accounting from DePaul University in 1963 and his MBA from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1964.

Early in his career Tom applied his superior accounting and business skills to the education of students at UW-Madison and DePaul University. Following a brief period spent at Inland Steel, he then found his true calling as a successful serial entrepreneur. Tom owned and operated many companies including Amer-Cal Inc., Horsing Around Farm, LBC Sports, Information Technology Group, and Performance Plus Inc..

Tom was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Roma Lodge, National Assn. of Accountants, SoFASST and "The Herd." A fan of anything fast, he thoroughly enjoyed drag racing and boating -- hobbies in which he passionately engaged from age 16 up through his record setting 10.86 second quarter mile run in his Impala at Great Lakes Dragaway on October 8, 2008. Tom also enjoyed world-wide exploration and, in particular, a good neighbourly game of Pinochle or Poker with his friends. Above all, he was a passionate family man who loved nothing more than having Lonnie at his side and “creating trouble” with his children and grandchildren.

Surviving are his loving wife of over 25 years, Lonnie; children, Jennifer Cotteleer, David (Amy) Cotteleer, Christopher (Tracie) Cotteleer, Mark (Angela) Cotteleer, James Randall “Randy” (Marisa) Cotteleer and John (Ellen) Cotteleer; grandchildren (who affectionately called him Papa, Bompa and Grampoggie), Reilly, Luke, Jakob, Caitlin, Ryan, Andrew, Matthew, Laine, April, Grace and Jaclyn; brother, Joseph (Marilyn) Cotteleer; sister, Sue (Jerry) Oxenford; sisters-in-law, Anita Serpe, Mary (Wayne) Barto, Angela (Wayne) Kruzel, Florence (James) Orlik, Rose Ann Serpe and Camille (John) Becker; brothers-in-law, Mark (Roberta) Serpe, Michael (Diana) Serpe and Lawrence (Patty Harris) Serpe, and other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his former wife, Joyce (nee: Docka) Cotteleer; brother-in-law, James Serpe; and by Lonnie’s parents, Samuel and Julia (nee: Haupt) Serpe.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 21, 2009, at 10 a.m. in St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St., with Rev. William J. Dietzler officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Floyd L. Welch

Floyd L. Welch, 87, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare on Sunday, May 17, 2009.

Floyd was born in Kingsford, MI, on May 20, 1921, to Leo and Margaret (nee: Difatte) Welch. He served in the United States Marine during WWII. Floyd married Eleanor Tribble on June 18, 1946, at Atonement Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death on October 18, 2002. He was employed at Western Publishing where he met his wife. He then worked as a Pressman for the Journal Times until his retirement. He was a member of the UAW. Floyd enjoyed fishing, traveling to his place in Coleman and spending time with his family. He was extremely gifted in carpentry, electrical and plumbing and was completely self-taught. Floyd lived in the family home, which he built entirely with his own hands.

Floyd is survived by his sons, Norman Welch, Gary Welch and Jay Welch; sister in law, Beverly A. Welch; nieces, Sandy Tomlinson and Debbie Welch; nephews, Bryan Mueller and Greg Mueller; and special great-nephew and great-niece, Nicholas and Anneliese Tomlinson. He is also survived by other relatives and friends. Floyd was preceded in death by his brothers, Norman and Donald Welch; and sister, Verna Mueller.

Funeral services for Floyd will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Ave., on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Warren Williams officiating. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Mary Ann Eppers

Mary Ann (nee: Erdman) Eppers, 76, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Providence Court Assisted Living Center in Milwaukee. She was born in Pittsville on January 29, 1933, the daughter of Otto and Myrtle (nee: Moore) Erdman.

On September 6, 1958, Mary was united in marriage to Leroy P. Eppers. Mary was employed at the Racine Social Security Administration office for over sixteen years. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish.

Surviving is her son, Mark Eppers; daughters, Peggy (Darren) Brown, Gail Eppers and Lisa (Randy) Demler; grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, Jason and Erin. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy, on December 2, 1993; four brothers and eleven sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, 6400 Spring Street, on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Bill Dietzler officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:30 a.m.

Kenneth 'Ken' A. Yarrington

Kenneth Yarrington, 83, passed away at Lincoln Village Center on May 16, 2009.

Mr. Yarrington was born to the late Charles and Emma (nee: Sande) Yarrington in Modena, Buffalo County on May 30, 1925, and has lived in Racine since 1950. In 1948 he was united in marriage to Doris Gunderson and recently they celebrated 60 loving years together.

Mr. Yarrington had been employed as a foreman at Rexnord for over 37 years until his retirement in 1987. He was actively involved in the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Sons of Norway and loved to travel.

Kenneth is survived by his wife Doris; two children, Larry (Jeannette) and Betty (Alan) Erbe; four grandchildren, Carrie, Scott, Dan and Julie; and four great-grandchildren, Nick, Alyssa, Anna and Morgan. He is further survived by his sister, Helen Kruger; brother-in-law, Richard (Kathy) Gunderson; many nieces, nephews as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his two brothers, Irvin and Russell; and five sisters, Rosella, Violet, Lucille, Doris and Marlene.

Funeral Services for Mr. Yarrington will be held at Wilson Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at noon, with Janice Navarro, associate in ministry, officiating. Ilija Kostic

Ilija Kostic, 89, passed away early Thursday morning, May 14, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Hospital. Ilija was born in Serbia on June 18, 1919, son of the late Djordje and Savka (nee: Cvetkovic) Kostic and moved to the United States in 1951.

He was last employed with Gateway Technical College for eighteen years until his retirement in 1982. Previously, he had been employed with Walker Mfg. and Belle City Malleable. He was a member of St. George Serbian Church. Above all he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-one years, Gisela; his daughter and son-in-law, Ilona V. (John) Willing all of Racine; his granddaughter, Tiffany Willing (Stephen) Dillinger; great-grandchildren, Paige and Daniel Dillinger, all of Chicago; brother, Todor Kostic of Leskovac, Serbia; sister-in-law, Ellen Peltz of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; brother-in-law, Werner (Waltraud) Horneburg of Hamburg, Germany; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Svetozar (Darka) Kostic, Simon (Zorka) Kostic, Slavko Kostic; and sister, Milunka (Svetomir) Krstic.

Beverly Ann Holbus

Surrounded by her family, Beverly Ann (nee, Mertins) Holbus passed away peacefully at Kindred Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Wednesday, May 13, 2009.

Beverly was born in Racine on July 15, 1927 to William A. and Ann (nee, Petersen) Mertins. She married Edward Holbus in Racine on June 25, 1948, and was blessed with over 60 years of marriage. She enjoyed traveling, reading, playing bridge, crossword puzzles, and listening to Big Band music. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Beverly was blessed with many wonderful family and friends whom she loved to entertain at holiday dinners and parties. She also helped run the family business, JNB International for many years.

Beverly is survived by her loving husband, Edward Holbus; children, Jeffrey (Marilyn) Holbus and their children, Nick and Eric of Racine; William (Gayla) Holbus and their son, Ben, of Union Grove; Cynthia and Nancy Holbus of Elk Grove, CA.; and Jim (Dorothy) Holbus and their children, Vaughn and Taylor of Norcross GA.; sister, Bernice Krueger; and her brother, Richard (Jan) Mertins. She is also survived by her beloved friends and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ann Mertins; brothers, William and Gilbert Mertins; her sister, JoAnne McCray and Great Grandson Ethen McDonald .

Celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, with Father Brian Holbus officiating. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. and the service at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Carl E. Vinson

Carl E. Vinson, 65, died on Thursday, April 30, 2009, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was born on May 8, 1943, in Sheffield, Alabama, the son of Alexander and Florence Vinson.

He grew up in Columbia, Tennessee, and served proudly in the United States Air Force in Colorado. Carl was married on Feb. 4, 1967, to Susan Linstroth of Racine. Carl lived in Racine until retiring to New Mexico in September 2008.

Carl is survived by his sons, Kenneth and Eric; and two grandchildren, Iain and Indigo; and a nephew, Steven Bright.

A memorial visitation will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Brenda Feick

Brenda (nee, Beckman) Feick, 64, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, surrounded by her family.

Brenda was born in Duluth, MN, on March 1, 1945, to Gayle and Norma (nee, Ohlund) Beckman. She and Thomas Feick were united in marriage on March 5, 1966. Brenda was employed by Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare as a Surgical First Assistant both in surgery and at the Pain Clinic. She became Chief Steward at the hospital for SEIU Local 150 and later became its Treasurer. She further demonstrated her devotion to patients by working for Advanced Pain Management.

To Brenda, family was her life. She loved her children and grandchildren who were very special to her.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Thomas Feick; children, Michelle Feick, Jerry Feick and Tom (Kristin) Feick; and her grandchildren, Andrew Feick, Katherine Feick and Tommie Feick; her mother, Norma Beckman; brother, Michael (Meg) Beckman; and nieces, Tess and Molly Beckman. Brenda is also survived by many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Brenda will be held at St. Joseph Catholic church, corner of Erie and St. Patrick Streets, on Monday, May 18, 2009, at 11 a.m. celebrated by Rev. John Aiello. Margaret Mary Csik

Margaret Mary (nee: Yankech) Csik, 86, affectionately known to many as “Midge,” passed away at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center on Wednesday, May 13, 2009.

A lifetime resident, Margaret was born in Racine on January 14, 1923, to the late Joseph and Pauline (nee: Strelec) Yankech. She graduated from Washington Park High School in 1941. On July 3, 1948, she was united in marriage with John S. Csik, who preceded her in death on July 25, 1977.

Margaret devoted her life to being a homemaker and raising her two adored children. Following the death of her husband, Midge enjoyed working for Racine Unified School District until she retired.

Catholic by faith, Margaret was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church where she was active with church card and Domino clubs. She was also involved with the Racine Interfaith Singles. A dedicated volunteer, Midge served our community as an election poll specialist at McKinley School and Ala-tot counsellor at the Grove Club. Among her interests, she enjoyed dancing, sewing, stained glass, tending to the birds in her yard and was a fantastic cook. Above all, her top priority in life was her children and grandchildren - she treasured every moment being in their surroundings.

Surviving are her son, Tom (Wendy) Csik; son-in-law, Dwight Haven; grandchildren, Tom Haven and Colleen (Rick) Andrews; great-grandson, Cristiano Andrews; brother, Paul Yankech; brother-in-law, Fred Draves; very special sister-in-law, Dorie Yankech; longtime friends, June and John Fiegel, Breezy Corona and Seb Corona; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name.

Jerome W. Horton

Jerome W. Horton, “Jerry,” 91, passed away May 13, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Mr. Horton was born in Racine on July 14, 1917, son of the late Edward “Joe” and Kathryn (Nee:Reiter) Horton and was a lifelong resident of Racine. On July 9, 1949, he was united in marriage to Catherine M. Grachan at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

During World War II, Jerry served in the US Army as a technician with the Headquarters Company South Pacific Base Command. He retired from Jacobsen Mfg. after 30 plus years as an accountant and was a member of the 20-year club. He was an avid fan of the Chicago White Sox and Green Bay Packers. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a past member of the St Joe's dart ball team.

Survivors include his wife Catherine “Kay”; his children, Jerry R Horton and Carol Horton (Mark Dorf) of Racine; brother and sister-in-law, Richard “Dick”(Gerry) Horton , of Sturtevant; grandchildren, Arlo Horton (Jen Reiter) of Milwaukee, and Sally Horton; and great-grandchildren, Garrick and Lauren Horton of La Crescent, MN; special nieces, Kathy (Matt) Olson and Lynn (Rob) Riemer; other nieces, nephews, relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his infant brother, Warren Horton.

Guy R. Ewing

Guy Raymond Ewing, Jr., age 84, passed away on May 12, 2009, surrounded by family, at Touchmark Assisted Living in Appleton, Wisconsin, after a long and courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. He was born March 19, 1925, in Warren, Ohio, son of the late Guy Raymond Ewing and Helen Marion Forbes of Lisbon, Ohio.

Guy served his country in World War II in the Pacific theatre, obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He married Patricia Ferard Williams on April 2, 1947. Guy was an avid reader and had a life-long love of learning, with widespread interests in many areas including history, music and art. He graduated with honors from The College of Wooster, Ohio, with a BA in History. He received an MA from Columbia University in New York City.

Guy was District Manager of the Social Security Administration, Racine, Wisconsin, retiring in 1985. He was always passionately interested in educating the public about Social Security and retirement issues, whether as a popular speaker or frequent writer in various publications. Over a period of roughly 30 years, he published numerous articles and letters on Social Security, Medicare, and local issues involving education, politics and the role of government in a variety of local publications including “The Racine Journal Times,” a column (“Social Security”) in the “Shoreline Leader,” the “Senior Sentinel,” and “United Seniors of Wisconsin.” He also had a “Social Security” radio program on WRJN, was a board member of the Racine County Skill Bank, served on the Racine County Commission on Aging (1985-1995) and helped set up various organizations in Racine such as Health Care Network, Inc.

Guy was a very active member of the Presbyterian Church: as Sunday School teacher, Elder, on various Presbytery and Synod committees, chairman of the Counseling Committee on Church and Society, Vice Moderator of Milwaukee Presbytery1971, Moderator of Milwaukee Presbytery 1972, and Commissioner to General Assembly 1976. Guy sang in the choir of every church of which he was a member throughout his life. He also sang in the Racine Symphonic Chorus and the Berkshire Choral Festival for a number of years. Guy was very interested in genealogy and was a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). He was also in Kiwanis, the Belle City Stamp Club, the Lincoln Fellowship, and the Civil War Book Club hosted by the Racine Public Library.

Guy lived in Racine for 44 years and moved to Appleton, WI, in the fall of 2007.

Guy is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Ferard Williams Ewing; his sons, Pastor David (Kathi) Ewing of Dallas Center, Iowa, Malcolm S. Ewing of Washington, D.C.; and daughters, Susan (William) Kyle of Louisville, KY, Jennifer (Richard) Orr of Appleton, WI, and Kate Ewing of Appleton, WI; his brother, Thomas (Jan) Ewing; ten grandchildren: Sean M.G. Malin, Teresa L. Van Handel, Margot A. Orr, Robert D. Orr, Charlotte A. Orr, Matthew P. Ewing, Jeffrey D. Ewing, Anna E. Ewing, Raymond G. Kyle, and Brittany L. Kyle; and four great-grandchildren: Justin S. Malin, Michael Steidtman, Layla Kanazeh, and Milo Kanazeh. His brother, Richard (Patricia Thornton) Ewing, preceded him in death.

Joyce E. Keller

Mrs. Joyce E. Keller, 84, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at Ridgewood Care Center. She was born in Racine on April 27, 1925, to the late Walter and Ruby (nee: Peterson) Keller. She lived in the Racine area all of her life.

She was employed at the Racine Journal Times for many years retiring in May 1990, as the Credit Manager.

She is survived by her son, Gary D. Keller; one sister-in-law, Deloris Bouvier; niece, Kathleen Keller; and nephew, Keith Keller.

Mary Alice (Schlichting) Spencer

Mary Alice Spencer (Nee: Schlichting), age 75, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2009, at Oak Ridge Care Center. Mary was born in Milwaukee on August 27, 1933, daughter of the late Calvin and Effie (Nee: Graykowski) Schlichting.

Mary grew up in Waupaca and graduated from Waupaca High School. In 1961 she was united in marriage to Robert Spencer. In her earlier years she worked in Milwaukee and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her brother, Edward Schlichting of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister, Amy Smith of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and a brother-in-law, Eugene Weddig of Milwaukee. She also was survived by nieces nephews and friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brother, Calvin Stanley; and a sister, Katherine Weddig.

Mary’s strong faith in our Lord and Blessed Mother helped her through many difficult times. She had a special concern for family, friends and care givers and for those who were sick or hurting, physically or emotionally, for whom she faithfully prayed the rosary every day.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Richard Catholic Church, 1503 Grand Avenue, Monday, May 18, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Paul Daniels officiating, assisted by Deacon Howard Wirtz. Albert Ray Scott

Albert Ray Scott passed away on Sunday May 10, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Albert was born April 25, 1945, in Windborn Mississippi. He was the son of Robert Weathrall and Elois (Nee: Scott) Stacy.

He was employed by Jacobsen Manufacturing until he retired. After retirement his favorite pastime was salvaging and fishing. Albert, known as “Ray” by his family and friends, was attending Lockwood Congregation of Jehovah Witness.

Albert leaves to cherish his precious memories his mother Elois Stacy; his “lil mama” Viola Scruggs; children, Camilla Selmon, Tito Long, Julius Scott, Dominic Pruitt, and Keyajah Pruitt all of Racine; Carmen, Todd and Virginia Scott all of Jacksonville, Florida; sister Camilla Russell of Racine; daughter-in-law Romonica Selmon; special nieces Tammy Tucker and LaTasha (Carey) Collins; and special nephews, Gentry Russell and Timothy Selmon all of Racine; special cousins, Tommie and Bernita Scruggs; aunt, Sarah Jacobs. He also leaves seven grandchildren, five of which he treated as if they were his own children, KeJuana, Angelo, Jaliin, Alexandria and Sahron; cherished friends, Mary Selmon and Shelia Pruitt; host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Weathrall; stepfather, Joseph Stacy; son, Anthony Selmon; daughter, Ramona Scott; and granddaughter Keyuana Collier.

John O. Houdek

Kansasville- John O. Houdek, 46, passed away on Sunday May 10, 2009. John was born in Racine on July 9, 1962, the son of Robert and Judie (Theophilus) Houdek.

He graduated from J.I. Case High School, Class of “1980” and furthered his education by attending UW-Madison, graduating in 1984. John found great enjoyment in golfing many various golf courses in the area and was a proud member of Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, the Winchester Gun Club and was a board member of Lincoln Lutheran of Racine. He was employed at the M&I Bank in Kenosha on Pershing Blvd. as financial advisor and Assistant Vice President.

John is survived by his parents, Bob and Judie Houdek Sr.; sister, Tamra (Tom) Hanson; brother, Bob (Christine) Houdek Jr. all of Racine; aunts, Mary Jo (Hood) Wilkinson of Melbourne, FL., Lucille Houdek of Racine; and uncle, James (Nancy) Houdek of Arkansas; nieces and nephews, Amanda (Davin) Jensen of Milwaukee, Katie Hanson of Florida, and Drake Bowers of Racine; and very dear friend, Nancy Schimmelpfennig.

John is further survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends in Racine, Kenosha and Milwaukee Counties. Dorothy Ann Barten

FRANKSVILLE – Dorothy Ann (nee: Dziadosz) Barten, 57, passed away on May 10, 2009, at her residence. She was born in Milwaukee on June 16, 1951, the daughter of Anton and Audrey (nee: Wisniewski) Dziadosz.

Dorothy graduated from Cudahy High School. On September 23, 1994, Dorothy was united in marriage to Jim Barten. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed embroidery and especially loved her dogs. She was proud to have beaten cancer four times.

Surviving is her husband, Jim; two sisters, Cheryl Rodziczak and Loretta Dziadosz; three brothers, Jim, Dale and David Dziadosz; two stepsons, Neal and Christopher Barten; and five step-grandchildren. She is further; survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by two sisters, Gloria and Corrine; and two brothers, Paul and Michael.

Services will be at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday, May 15, 2009, at noon. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 3801 W. Morgan Ave., in Milwaukee. There will be a visitation before service on Friday from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Marjorie M. 'Pat' Peterson

Marjorie M. Peterson, 79, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Willowgreen Assisted Living.

Pat was born in Racine on January 9, 1930, to Victor and Dorothy (nee, Caspers) Pier. She has been a lifelong Racine resident. Pat married Donald W. Peterson in Racine on September 17, 1976. Pat was office manager for Dr. Richard Fogle for over 23 years. She retired on December 31, 1986. Pat loved to play keyboard, sharing her music for the many nursing homes in the Racine area for the past 15 years. She was a kind woman who was friendly to everyone she met.

Survivors include her husband, Donald W. Peterson; daughter, Renee Thomas; grandsons, Brian Edgar and Joel Edgar; great-granddaughter, Taylor Edgar; great-grandson, Austin Edgar; nephews, Vick (Mickey) Pier, John (Sue) Pier and Mark Pier; and her niece, Cathy Pier. Pat is also survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Robert Pier.

Paul L. Becker

Paul L. Becker, age 81, passed away Friday, May 8, 2009, at his residence. Paul was born in Monroe, WI, on December 5, 1927, son of the late Paul J. and Agnes (nee: McGinnity) Becker.

Paul was united in marriage to Louella Neitzel on August 28, 1954. He was employed by Badger Uniform for many years until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Paul was an avid sports fan and always enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He enjoyed mornings spent with his friends coffee klatching and was very proud of his Irish heritage. He was loved dearly and will be sadly missed.

Survivors include his wife Louella; three children, Timothy (Joan) Becker, Lynn (Robert) Hart and Luanne (Pete) Dikanovic; six grandchildren, Angela (Ryan) Pruess and Nicholas Becker, Ben and Nolan Hart, Allison and Sam Dikanovic; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Mervyn (George) Suckow and LaVerne Zuba; other relatives and many dear friends.

Charles E. Thoele

Charles E. Thoele, age 93, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2009, at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home, Town of Dover. Charles was born in Buffalo, IL, August 21, 1915, son of the late Anthony and Leita M. (Nee: Woodcock) Thoele.

During World War II and the Korean War Charles proudly served in the United States Navy where he made a career in the military. Upon retiring he continued his career at the Great Lakes Naval Base. While serving in the Navy Charles met his sweetheart, Dorothy Douglas, and on August 1, 1940, they were united in marriage. She preceded him in death on June 29, 2006. Charles was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church. Above all he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Roger S. Houle

Roger S. Houle, 65, passed away at Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center on Friday, May 8, 2009.

Roger was born in Escanaba, MI, on August 24, 1943. He served his country in the United States Navy during Vietnam aboard the U.S.S. Wainwright. Roger married Lou Ann Olson in Milwaukee on August 30, 1969. He owned and operated the Corner Connection Tavern since 1982 and was a founding member of the Veterans of American Motorcycle Club.

Roger is survived by his wife, Lou Ann Houle; two sons, Roger J. and Ryan J. Houle; and two brothers, Raymond (Connie) and Russell (Janet) Houle of Escanaba, MI. He is also survived by other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Houle.

George J. Markson

George J. Markson, age 75, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Mr. Markson was born in Racine, June 7, 1933, son of the late Henry and Eleanor (Nee: Pier) Markson and had been a lifelong Racine resident.

Mr. Markson was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1951.” He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. Mr. Markson was employed by the Wisconsin Gas and Electric Company for many years. He was a member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, an active member of Catholic Men’s Association, Apostulate of Suffering, and the Bryant Center Card Playing Club. He will be sadly missed.

Edward D. Beyer, 79, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, May 5, 2009.

Edward was born in Burlington, WI, on Nov. 6, 1929, to Albert and Margaret (nee; Zerphes) Beyer. He grew up in the Twin Lakes area before moving to Racine. Edward served in the United States Army as a Paratrooper. He married Della Patrum. Edward was employed as a Racine County Deputy Sheriff prior to entering into building construction. He was a member of the Laborers Union 113. Edward’s passion was his work and family.

He is survived by his wife Della Beyer; children, Michael (Cathy) Beyer, Theresa Beyer, David Beyer, Bridget (David) Ruffalo, Matthew Beyer, and Tracy (Tim) Fairbanks; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Joe (Beverly) Beyer; and sister, Pat (Roger) Williams. Edward is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mike; and sister, Mary.

Norman C. 'Uncle Norman' Platt

Norman C. Platt, “Uncle Norman,” age 93 passed away Monday, May 4, 2009, at Wisconsin Veteran’s Home, Union Grove. Norman was born October 10, 1915, in Dowell, IL, son of the late John H. and Agnes Platt. Norman moved to Racine at the age of 14 and attended area schools. He worked at numerous bars and was known as the “Singing Waiter” until, at the age of 20 he found employment at Massey Harris, working there until his retirement 35 years later.

Norman loved “Show Biz.” He was a member of the Cardiac Capers, singing and dancing for 16 years, and after they disbanded he joined the “Penguin Players” where he performed well into his 90’s. Norman loved to travel and traveled to Las Vegas 27 times, often appearing on stage with some of the celebrities.

Norman was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II from May 29, 1942, until December 11, 1945. He served in the European Theatre and was there for the liberation of Paris. He loved journeying back to England and France and meeting old friends.

Norman never married but thought every woman he met was beautiful and every gentleman was a friend. He never had a bad thought about anyone he met. Although he never had any children, he loved all children and enjoyed entertaining them as Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer each Christmas at the Eagles Club. Norman considered everyone he met a dear friend.

Norman attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a member of the Eagles Club and a lifetime member of the Veteran’s Club. Norman loved cooking and gardening and loved growing vegetables and flowers on an acre of land at his niece's and then giving all of it away. He had such a generous heart. Most of all Norman loved performing before the public.

Norman leaves behind his best friends, Mona and Richard Fortier who cared for him for many years; niece Fay Rasmussen of Racine; nephew, Roger and Veronica Hansen of Largo, FL; and many, many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Violet and Menno Hansen; his brother and sister-in-law, John A. and Aileen Platt; his niece, Marlene B. Hawes; and nephew, Carl Platt.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, May 9, 2009, at noon, with Rev. John D. Aiello officiating. Private interment will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Town of Dover. Violet L. (Petersen) Kuske

Violet L. Kuske, age 78, passed away Monday, May 4, 2009, at the Kenosha United Hospital System. Violet was born in Racine, September 16, 1930, daughter of the late Peder and Ottomina (Nee: Christensen) Petersen.

On April 22, 1950, in Waukegan, IL, she was united in marriage to Robert A. Kuske, who preceded her in death on March 26, 1991. Violet enjoyed knitting, volunteering with the VFW Auxiliary, and she loved wildlife, especially feeding the birds. Above all she treasured time spent with her family. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her children, Roberta (Robert) Stevens of Las Vegas, NV, Karen (Nolan) DeCamp of Racine, David (Terry) Kuske of Kiel, WI,; eight grandchildren, Rob (Cami), Adam, Matthew, Kristin, Nicole, Daniel, Jason and Carolynn; a brother, Albert (Mary) Petersen of Racine; a sister, Rose (Martin) DeKeuster of Racine; her special friend, George Caynak; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Kenneth Louis Mowry, Jr.

Kenneth Louis Mowry, Jr., 45, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center on Monday, May 4, 2009.

Kenny was born in Racine on March 9, 1964, to Kenneth Louis and Pamela Jean (nee: Stephen) Mowry, Sr. He received his education from Walden High School and Gateway Technical College.

Kenny was an accomplished automobile mechanic at his family business, Mowry’s Service Station on Taylor Avenue, where he established many lifelong friendships with customers.

Kenny absolutely loved to fish, especially at Brown’s Lake. He had a great appreciation for the simple things in life… thunderstorms, fireworks, Andy Griffith, Clint Eastwood, drag strips and the Green Bay Packers. Above all, he treasured being in the surroundings of his entire family.

Surviving are his adored daughters, Nikita Wallin, Samantha Hawkins and Katelyn Mowry; grandson, Rylee; parents, Ken and Janet Mowry, Sr.; Irving Marko; sisters, Deanna Mowry and Kim (Michael) Lueck; brothers, Michael (Anne Leuschen) Marko, Brian (Sue) Walley and Dave Walley; uncles, Michael (Debra) Mowry and Chuck (Vicky) Stephen; aunt, Betsy (Clarence) Perry; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name.

Rosella G. Jensen, 91, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare on Monday, May 4, 2009.

Rosella was born in Modena, WI, on January 9, 1918, to Charles and Emma (nee: Sande) Yarrington. She was employed at St. Mary’s Medical Center as a CNA until her retirement. Rosella was a funny lady and was a great person to be around. She loved to make sure that everyone was fed.

Rosella is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Allen (Joan) Jensen; daughters and sons-in-law, Mavis (Robert) Clausen-LaFond, Karen (Tom) Garbo, and Sharon Pitchford; grandchildren, Carrie Jensen, Daniel and Michael Clausen, Jennifer Shawhan, Steven Garbo, Pam Adams, Billy and Paula Pitchford; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth (Doris) Yarrington; and sister, Helen Kruger. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Rosella was preceded in death by her grandson, David Clausen; two brothers and six sisters.

Funeral services for Rosella will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, May 7, 2008, at 7 p.m. with Rev. Donald Johnson officiating. Private family interment will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5 p.m. until the time of services.

Rosella’s children would like to thank their sister, Sharon, and niece, Paula, for the loving and dedicated care they gave to their mother. They would also like to thank the 3rd floor nursing staff at Wheaton Franciscan for the care and compassion given to the family.

Clair Guy 'Bud' Glines

Clair Guy “Bud” Glines, 91, died on Sunday May 3, 2009. Born to Lawrence and Dorothea (Green) Glines in Berlin, Wisconsin, on March 21, 1918, Clair grew up and spent much of his life in Racine, Wisconsin, graduating from Washington Park High School in 1935. He married Rose M. Matern on June 1, 1940. They had six children.

Clair served in the Navy during World War II. After the war, he worked for nearly 30 years in the field of quality assurance for the US Navy and US Defense Supply Agency. After retirement, he and Rose built a house in Door County, Wisconsin, where they spent many happy years. In 2004 they moved to the Three Pillars retirement community in Dousman, Wisconsin, and became members of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Clair will be remembered for his unfailing commitment to his family, his concern for others, his temperate good sense, his ability to make and fix anything, and the thousands of flowers he grew over many years.

Clair was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Dorothea; two brothers, Rexford and Frederick; and by son, Jeffrey. Surviving are his wife, Rose; daughter, Heather Holden (Jerome Johnson); sons, Timothy (Barbara Davis), Lawrence (Carmelita), Richard (Masami), and Randall (Annette Schneider); sister, Marcellane (Robert) Marsh; grandchildren, Chisato Glines, Miki Glines and Jordan Pruss; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation and services will be at Sturino Funeral Home, 3014 Northwestern Ave., Racine, on Saturday, May 9, 2009, with visitation at 10 a.m. and services at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.

Betty Joyce (Auntie 'B') Wahl

Ms. Betty Wahl, 78, passed away peacefully at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - All Saints on Sunday, May 3, 2009, with her family at her side.

Ms. Wahl was born to the late Theodore and Margret (nee: Jaeger) Wahl in Milwaukee on April 27, 1931, and had lived most of her life in Racine. Betty was born in Milwaukee, raised on a Racine County farm, and attended schools in Racine and Burlington. Betty survived polio since 1949.

Betty's emphasis on life has been what she CAN and that she did, sewing stuffed animals and made a lot of crafts items, enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. Betty was very involved with the Wisconsin Wawbeeck Activity Club for handicapped.

She had been employed as a receptionist at Curative Workshop for over 37 years until her retirement in 1995. She was also an active member of Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church, Sunday School, and the Church board of Education.

Betty is survived by one brother, Charles Wahl; and a sister-in-law,Jacqueline Wahl; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her brother, Howard Wahl; a sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Bill Krause; and a brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Nancy Wahl; sister-in-law, Helen Wahl; two nephews, Michael and Carl Krause; and a great-nephew, Bob Bruss, Jr.

Funeral services for Ms. Wahl will be held at Lutheran Chapel of the Cross, 1426 N. Fancher Rd., on Friday May 8, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Daniel Feldscher officiating. Internment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Thursday May 7, from 5-8 p.m. at the Wilson Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Chapel of the Cross building fund.

Betty will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Charles John 'C.J.' Bendix II

Charles John Bendix II, 36, affectionately known all of his life as “C.J.,” passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, May 3, 2009, of sudden cardiac arrest.

C.J. was born in Racine on August 8, 1972, to Charles John and Diana Rose (nee: Desotell) Bendix, Sr. He received his education from Goodland Elementary, Starbuck Middle and Washington Park High School.

An extreme automobile enthusiast, C.J. was a meticulous car detailer who proudly owned and operated “Buff n Shine,” a local detail service, for many years. For the past three years, he was also employed as a furnace operator at Midwest Thermo Vac.

A fishing fanatic to say the least, C.J. was an award winning fisherman who was the 2002 Grand Prize overall winner of Salmon-A-Rama, for his 32.68 lb Chinook and a member of Salmon Unlimited. Among his other interests, C.J. enjoyed deer hunting, shooting pool and watching the Green Bay Packers. Above all, he had an infectious smile and loving personality that brightened the lives of his entire family and circle of friends.

Surviving are his parents, Charles and Diana Bendix, Sr.; brother, Steven Bendix; sisters, Michele and Mary Bendix; beloved 6-year-old niece, Kaitlyn Bendix; girlfriend, Jacqueline Phillips (and her son, Aaron); aunts and uncles, David (Mary) Desotell, Donna (Jim) DeMark, Dorothy (Lonnie) Albro, Denise (Anthony) Rossi, Daniel (Kim) Desotell, Frances Cogburn and MaryAnn Bendix; many cousins, other relatives and treasured friends too numerous to mention by name.

C.J. was preceded in death by his infant brother, Joseph Bendix; grandparents, Ralph and Rosalie Desotell; Eugene and Mary Bendix, Sr.; and uncle, Eugene Bendix II.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 8, 2009, at 11 a.m. in St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St., with Rev. William J. Dietzler officiating. Mary M. Westrich

Mary Margaret Westrich, 66, of Sturtevant, Wisconsin, died at her home Sunday, May 3, 2009. Mary was born July 5, 1942, in Racine, to George and Ruth Mildred (Lawrence) Westrich. She was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School, Class of 1960.

Mary began a career in the banking industry shortly after graduation where she served for over 40 years. She started with First National Bank of Racine, which became Marine Bank and later Bank One. She held many positions as an Assistant Vice President, Bookkeeping Supervisor, Chief Quality Officer, and Customer Relations Officer. She also coordinated the Senior Champs Program and took great pride in caring for her customers as a Personal Banker.

Always wanting to help others, Mary found the time to chair and sit on various boards, including St. Catherine’s High School, St Monica's Senior Citizen Home, the local Women's Resource Center, Salvation Army, Family Service of Racine, Crime Stoppers, Catholic Junior League, and the Wisconsin Council of Catholic Women.

Her true spirit was drawn into her Catholic Faith where she became involved with the Dominican Sisters of the Siena Center in 1985 and continued her Associate affiliation until her passing. She had a lifelong devotion to Jesus.

One of Mary’s greatest joys and a true talent was telling a story. She has entertained her family, friends, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and just about anyone who would listen with stories that mesmerized her audience. Those stories will continue to be retold in her honor for years. Her love of storytelling was shared during the Christmas Season when she portrayed Mrs. Claus at the bank and for the Catholic Junior League’s annual Christmas party.

Mary is survived by her three big brothers, Tom (Sharon) of The Villages, FL, and their three children, Greg (Ann), Geoff (Andrea), and Melanie (Todd) Huff; Jim (Elizabeth) of Algoma, WI, and their four children, Lizanne (Kevin) Armstrong, Jim (Tricia Spellman), Todd (Carole) and Georganne (Kris) Scherer; and George (Karen) of Racine, and their two children, Mark (Michelle) and John; as well as other relatives and countless friends. Her ten grand-nephews and six grand-nieces were always close by for a new story.

In addition to her parents, Mary was also preceded in death by a sister, Nancy; nephew, Timothy S. Westrich; and grand-nephew Andrew Westrich, who were in her daily thoughts and prayers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Siena Center Chapel, 5635 Erie Street, at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2009. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at Siena Center Chapel on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. She will be terribly missed each and every day by her family and the countless friends she made throughout her life.

Her family would like to thank her strong support system of close friends who were like family. The hours of time spent with her and dedication to keeping her day-to-day life together will not be forgotten and is truly appreciated.

Robert Lee Geshay

Robert Lee Geshay went to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on May 1, 2009, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born to the late John and Anna (nee: Klebecka) Geshay on April 11, 1927. Bob was preceded to Heaven by his first wife Petronella (Pat, nee: Bergsma) Geshay, son Robert Lee Geshay Jr, daughter JoAnn Geshay DeStigter, and brother Richard Geshay.

Children surviving Bob and Pat are: Richard (Carolyn) Geshay of Houston, TX: Kathryn Geshay of LaJolla, CA; David (Helene) Geshay of Oceanside, CA; John (Teresa) Geshay of Jacksonville, FL; Robin (Paul) Van Portfliet of Grand Rapids, MI; and Thomas (Meg) Geshay of Shorewood, WI. Bob has fourteen grandchildren: Jody DeStigter, Tad (Kathy) DeStigter, and Janelle DeStigter; Laura (Jeff) Sundberg, Dr. Melissa (Dr. Joe) Fitzwater and Danielle Geshay; Robert E. Geshay; John Robert II and Rachel Geshay; Katelyn, Kimberlee and Jay Van Portfliet; Nicholas and Madeline Geshay. Bob also had one great-grandchild, Alex DeStigter.

Bob is survived by his present wife, Joan, of 29 years, as well as his step-children, Marshall Gergen and his daughter Lindsey, and Carolyn Gergen Hansen and her daughters Lauren, Brooke, and Raquel Hansen.

Bob’s surviving siblings are: James (Katie) Geshay of Naples, FL; John (Gladys) Geshay of Racine, WI; Rev. Thomas (Julianna) Geshay of Santa Barbara, CA; and Nancy (Tom) Anspaugh of Rockford, IL.

Bob attended school at Northern Michigan College, majoring in Engineering. He also attended The University of Wisconsin and the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Bob received an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force after World War II.

Bob was employed at SC Johnson and Son for forty years, ending his career as a Manufacturing Manager. He was active in the Christian Reformed Church serving as an elder and a deacon, and he also served as school board president of the Racine Christian School for over ten years. Bob was also the president for Our Savior’s Lutheran Church before retiring to North Carolina in 1984.
Bob was a devoted father and a very positive influence in his children’s lives. He was an inspiration to them and could be counted upon for wise counsel at any time. Bob was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing on the many beautiful golf courses in the South. His hobby was designing and building homes in the South.

Bob and Joan resided in North Carolina and Tennessee for twenty-two years before returning to Racine in 2006. They are members of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Racine. Bob’s favorite hymns are: “When We All Get To Heaven,” “Blessed Assurance,” and “When the Roll is Called up Yonder I’ll be There,” and “The Old Rugged Cross.”

The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. David Zablotney and staff for the kind and compassionate care given to Bob as well as the staff at Wheaton Franciscan Cardiovascular and Hospice Care Centers.

Visitation will be begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2009, at Evangelical United Methodist Church, 11th and Main St. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the church at noon on Monday with the Rev. Dr. Craighton Kaye and Rev. John Fleming officiating. A private burial for the family will be held at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery in Union Grove with military honors.

Edward Lester 'Sarge' Pavlik, Sr.

Edward Lester “Sarge” Pavlik, Sr., 80, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2009, at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care- All Saints. Edward was born on February 16, 1929, in Carbonhill, Ohio, the son of George and Anna (Duratny) Pavlik.

He spent 16 years in Logan, Ohio, and then moved to Racine for the rest of his life. On July 1, 1950, Edward was united in marriage to Valerie Dushane in Racine. Sarge served in the United States Army for 28 years; for 26 of those years he was 1st Sgt. with the Army Combat Engineer Reserve Unit. He also spent two years in Germany with his brothers, John and Rudy Pavlik. Lester was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1481. He was also a member of NCHA Sunchasers Camping Club, and Circle 8 Square Dance Club. He was employed by Young Radiator as a welder for over 43 years. Sarge enjoyed many hours hunting and fishing in northern Wisconsin and many good friends over the years.

Surviving are his wife, Valerie of Racine; children, Barbara Sesso of Prior Lake, MN, Edward Pavlik, Jr. of Racine, Theresa (Randall) Seyferth of Racine; six grandchildren, Carrie (Scott) Andersen of Savage, MN, Keegan Pavlik of Milwaukee, Jason Seyferth of Milwaukee, Samantha Sesso of Chicago, IL, Matthew Seyferth of Racine, Sarah Seyferth of Racine; four great-grandchildren, Jack, Ethan and Shane Andersen of Savage, MN, and Isabella Seyferth of Racine; sister, Margaret Conner of South Bend, IN; brother, Harry (Pat) Pavlik of Logan, OH.; special friends, Earl and Esther Thompson. He is further survived by many much loved nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Edward is preceded in death by five brothers, George, Paul, Robert, John, and Rudy; a sister, Celia Conner; and his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at 10 a.m. Private burial will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church before Mass from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m.

Joseph A. Becker

Mesa, AZ – formerly of Waukesha, WI, died on Friday, May 1, 2009, at the age of 86. He was born on December 24, 1922, in Kenosha, WI, to Joseph and Myrtle Becker. He lived in Mesa, AZ, since 1989.

Joseph will be sadly missed by his daughter, Barbara (Scott) Sangsland of Claremont, CA; son Randy (Sue) Becker of Muskego, WI; and stepdaughter, Jill (Jack) Coy-Magestro of Hartland, WI. He is further survived by his six grandchildren, one great-grandson, and other relatives and numerous friends.

A graveside memorial service will be held at Graceland Cemetery on the corner of Graceland Blvd. and Osborne Blvd. on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at 11 a.m.
